Violent Kabaddi Altercation Shakes IIT Kanpur Campus
Video footage of the incident quickly made its way onto social media, capturing the disturbing scenes of students, who should have been engaged in spirited sportsmanship, resorting to violence. The video shows players exchanging kicks and punches, as well as hurling chairs at each other. Shockingly, some students even dismantled plastic chairs during the brawl.
The teams involved in this regrettable incident hailed from Delhi’s Netaji Subhash University of Technology and JC Bose University of Science and Technology.
Upholding Fair Play Amidst the Kabaddi Brawl Fallout
In response to the incident, IIT Kanpur issued a statement through Careers 360, expressing its deep concern. The institute stated, “It has come to our notice that two teams fought fiercely in Udhoksh 23. Strict action has been taken against these teams who vandalized the Annual Sports Festival of IIT Kanpur. In future, these teams will never be allowed to participate in IIT Kanpur events again. These institutes have also been informed about this and have been instructed to take action to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.”
The violent brawl during the Kabaddi match was a stark departure from the principles of fair play and sportsmanship. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the spirit of sports and competition, devoid of any acts of aggression or violence.
