On Friday night, members of the Muslim community took to the streets in Ghaziabad and other parts of Western UP, demanding swift action against Narsinghanand.
New Delhi: A wave of anger and protests has erupted across Uttar Pradesh following inflammatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad by Dasna Devi Temple mahant Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati. The controversial figure has been detained at the Ghaziabad Police Lines following an FIR lodged against him for “blasphemous statements,” triggering widespread outrage among the Muslim community in the country, ABP reported.
On Friday night, members of the Muslim community took to the streets in Ghaziabad and other parts of Western UP, demanding swift action against Narsinghanand. The protests escalated after AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi called for his immediate arrest, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against the hate speech.
The FIR, registered on Thursday, stemmed from a video circulating widely on social media, where Narsinghanand can be heard making derogatory and abusive remarks against Prophet Muhammad. The case, filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, pertains to hurting religious sentiments.
The Muslim bodies have demanded the government to hold him accountable for his persistent issue of hate speech and its potential to incite violence, prompting calls for stricter measures to curb such inflammatory rhetoric.
Narsinghanand, known for his controversial and provocative speeches, has a history of inciting religious tensions. In 2022, he was arrested for hate speech, and in December 2021, he delivered a speech at the ‘Dharm Sansad’ in Haridwar, calling on Hindus to use weapons against the “threat of Muslims.”
