Yamaha has updated their middle weight naked superbike for the 2025 model year. It gets some new hardware additions and more importantly, a new AMT gearbox which Yamaha has been introducing in all of its newer motorcycles. There is also a new look for the motorcycle and it gets more in line with the bigger naked motorcycles from the Japanese brand.
The new design is smoothened out at places but Yamaha has replaced the front end completely and the projector headlamp now sits above the DRLs which is an interesting design choice. It is more aggressive than before. The tank has a new intake on the side of it and the rear of the bike remains somewhat similar to the old model.
There are a lot of feature addition which are the main talking point. It now gets a slipper clutch, new 41 mm USD forks up front, radial brake calipers, new vents on the tank for more intake sound and spin-forged wheels which are lighter and feature on the bigger motorcycles. It also gets 3 riding modes – Street, Sport and Custom, cruise control on the AMT version, and a new 5-inch TFT color display which gets Bluetooth connectivity.
The chassis has also seen some major changes which and is now quite a bit more rigid than before while weighing exactly the same as the previous model. The Swingarm and Mounting Pivot are also at different locations and it gets a more aggressive riding position than before. The engine remains more or less the same and it is a 690cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engines which produces 72.4 bhp and 67 Nm of torque. The news is that it gets ride-by-wire for the first time which allows for riding modes. There are different traction modes as well.
Yamaha has also added their Y-AMT transmission to the MT-07 which basically employs two electronic actuators to shift gears and the rider can take manual control by the shift buttons on the handlebar. There is no clear news about Yamaha bringing their big-bikes here in the Indian market but all we can do is sit and hope that it comes to India.
