New Delhi: The tragic case of the young doctor’s rape and murder at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital continues to reverberate, with the victim’s mother refuting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s denial of offering financial compensation to the family.
In a strong rebuke, the grieving mother asserted that Banerjee’s claim was a lie, stating, “My daughter is not going to return. Would I lie in her name? She (the CM) told us that we would receive money and suggested that we create something in our daughter’s memory. I responded that I would collect the money once my daughter gets justice,” news agency ANI reported.
This statement by the trainee doctor’s mother directly contradicts Banerjee’s earlier claim that she never offered money to the family. The doctor’s cousin confirmed this, stating with full responsibility that Banerjee herself offered the financial compensation.
The victim’s mother not only rejected Banerjee’s denial but also criticised her call for returning to festivities as Durga Puja approaches. The mother argues that their lives have been shattered and that celebrating feels “inhuman” under these circumstances. “If such an incident happened in the chief minister’s family, would she have said this?” She questioned.
She further asserted that their battle for justice will continue. The reaction from the victim’s mother comes after Banerjee denied that her government offered money to the family.
During a press conference, Banerjee stated, “A lot of people are saying I spoke about money. I never did. Show me evidence, where have I ever mentioned anything about money? Lies, slander, false propaganda, conspiracy.”
Highlighting the demand made by the Resident Doctor’s Forum, Banerjee said that the third point of their statement was about compensation to the victim’s family,” adding that if the doctor’s family wants to do something in her memory, the Bengal government will support them financially.
