Moscow: Crumbs, the world’s fattest cat, passed away in Russia just weeks after being put on a weight-loss diet. The exact reason for his passing is yet to be determined. Crumbs, known as Kroshik in Russian, had gone viral after it was randomly discovered in the basement of a hospital in Russia. At the time, the feline weighed about 17 kg.
The heavy feline’s weight gain was attributed to its diet of biscuits, soup, and scarps. Soon after it was rescued, the cat was taken to a veterinary clinic in Russia’s Perm. In the initial days of the feline’s time at the hospital, it was properly monitored and the feline shed over 3 kg through diet and exercise such as underwater treadmill. However, things took a dark turn when the Crumbs started developing breathing issues. The sudden health scare led to the feline’s death. Galiana More, the head of the shelter that took care of the cat, stated that layers of fat often made it difficult to detect the presence of cancerous tumours.

Speaking to the New York Post, More confirmed that Crumbs did not have any digestive or breathing troubles. The head of the shelter further stated, “We could not do an ultrasound, but we constantly monitored his health, because we understood that excess weight does not just happen.” She added, “When this is a large set of such multi-organ failure, the body simply can not cope..” More also said that they would have to wait for 5 days to understand the exact reason for Crumbs’s passing.
In an official statement, the shelter thanked the public who prayed for and supported Crumbs till his end.
