Dehradun: Under the Rishikesh master plan, a world class Integrated Spiritual Yoga and Wellness Centre is likely to be set up in the holy city Rishikesh. Rishikesh is also referred to as the Yoga capital of the world. The center will be an important place for the yoga and meditation practitioners from across the country as well as the world. The government has begun its exercise for setting up the center. A site near the AIIMs, Rishikesh, is likely to be selected for the proposed center.
The master plan for the Rishikesh city is being prepared by the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board. Recently, a presentation was given before the board constituted under the chairmanship of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding Rishikesh master plan.
A holistic and balanced development of the Rishikesh
The plan for setting up a world class Integrated Spiritual Yoga and Wellness Centre in Rishikesh was discussed at the meeting of the board. The master plan aims to ensure a holistic and balanced development of the Rishikesh city. The site for setting up the center near the AIIMs, Rishikesh, was also discussed.

A request has been reportedly made to the forest department for the transfer of the land to set up the center. The proposed world class Integrated Spiritual Yoga and Wellness Centre is supposed to promote development activities in Rishikesh city. The plan for setting up the center also is in accordance with the Rishikesh master plan.
Rishikesh as a land for practicing yoga and meditation
The plan for setting up the center in Rishikesh has its own significance in view of the pilgrimage city’s status as the land of yoga and meditation. Since ancient times, sages and saints have been making their choice in Rishikesh for practicing yoga and meditation. Spiritual personalities like Mahesh Yogi and Baba Ram Dev, who popularized modern yoga and meditation at the global level, are also associated with the land of Rishikesh. The founder of transcendental yoga Mahesh Yogi had set up Shankaracharya Nagar in the 1960s.
