New Delhi: During the discussion on 75th anniversary of adoption of Indian Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his pride in the country’s democratic journey. He said, “For all of us, for all citizens and for all democracy-loving citizens across the world, this is a moment of great pride.”
Addressing Lok Sabha for a special debate on the Constitution, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the 75-year journey, praising the vision and efforts of the Constitution makers. “This is a moment to celebrate. I congratulate all those who took part in this celebration,” he added.
Reflecting on the Constitution’s role, he said, “When the country became independent, the Constitution of India has brought us here by defeating all the possibilities that were expressed for India at that time.” He saluted the Constitution makers and the citizens of India for their contributions to this achievement.
PM Modi also emphasized India’s rich democratic history, stating, “India is not only a huge democracy but also the mother of democracies.” He further explained that the Constitution makers were deeply aware of India’s long republican past, saying, “They did not believe that democracy has been coming to India since 1950. India’s democracy, India’s republican past has been very rich. It has been an inspiration for the world.”
“That is why India is known as the Mother of Democracy today. We are not just a huge democracy, we are the mother of democracy,” he added.
