New Delhi: A 33-year-old woman from Banda district of Uttar Pradesh was sentenced to death by hanging in United Arab Emirates in September 2024. The sentenced was pronounced by a court in Abu Dhabi.
The woman named Shahzadi is expected to be hanged in the next 24 hours in UAE’s Abu Dhabi. The woman has now made a last call to her family members. The call was arranged by UAE authorities on compassionate grounds.
Last call with parents
During the phone call, Shahzadi told her parents that this was her last exchange. The woman also asked her parents to withdraw a case filed against their rivals in her hometown, according to a report in News18.
Shahzadi went to Abu Dubai in 2021 after he was persuaded by one Uzair with promises of a comfortable life. According to reports, Shahzadi, a native of Goyra Mugli village in Banda, was sold to an Agra-based couple who later took her to UAE.
Later, a case was filed against the couple and Uzair under provisions of human trafficking following orders from the court of Banda Chief Judicial Magistrate. All the accused are now residing in Dubai.
Child’s death and Shahzadi’s troubles
Once in Abu Dhabi, she was given the work of caring for the couple’s 4-month-old child. However, she came in trouble when the child died unexpectedly. Shahzadi was held responsible for the death of the child.
Following a probe into the incident, an Abu Dhabi court held Shahzadi responsible and sentenced her to death. The woman’s father had approached Banda district administration seeking its intervention in the case.
Reports suggested that Uzair is the relative of the couple- Faiz and Nadia-and he handed over Shahzadi to them. Meanwhile, the woman and her father Shabbir has claimed that the baby died due to medical negligence and that Shahzadi was innocent in the entire episode.
