New Delhi: Wife of jailed Independent MP from Khadoor Sahib in Punjab, Amritpal Singh, is now under the lens of intelligence agencies allegedly arranging foreign funds for ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD).
As per reports, agencies have received inputs that Pakistan’s spy agency ISI was once again trying to destablise India by funding WPD and Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was spearheading the task of arranging financial assistance for the WPD.
Kirandep’s Dibrugarh visit under lens of intel agencies
As part of her moves to gain financial support for the banned outfit, Kaur also visited Assam’s Dibrugarh district recently and held meetings with some locals there. During her visit, Kaur used a mobile phone to make some calls and this phone belongs to an individual linked to a religious place in Dibrugarh.
Kaur has been long associated with WPD and now her emergence into the activities of the outfit has concerned the intelligence agencies, who are now maintaining a closer watch over Kaur.
Amritpal Singh now charged under UAPA
Amritpal Singh, who heads the WPD and has styled himself after slain Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was jailed along with nine of his associates under the NSA.
Earlier in the week, Punjab Police invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the radical preacher in connection with the murder case of a Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau. He was was shot dead on October 9 last year while returning home from a gurdwara in Faridkot district. Nau was a member of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit.
Earlier, police claimed that gangster-turned-terrorist Arshdeep Singh alia Arsh Dalla was the mastermind in this case.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in October last year claimed that Nau was killed allegedly at the behest of Amritpal Singh.
Last week, Tarsem Singh, Amritpal’s father, had alleged that he and his family were kept under house arrest by Punjab Police.
According to him, police put them under house arrest they got some information that the family was involved in a protest by the Quami Insaaf Morcha. Police were reportedly deployed outside his residence, restricting the movement of all household members.
