New Delhi: A remark made by Union minister Chirag Paswan raised many hackles on Tuesday. Chirag Paswan, of Lok Janshakti Party which is a key ally of NDA, said that he would have no qualms in relinquishing his ministerial post if there was any tampering with the Constitution or reservation or if people from deprived sections were subjected to any injustice. He said he will adhere to the principles and vision set by his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan.
“I will not hesitate to renounce my ministerial berth like my father did if reservation and Constitution are tampered with,” Chirag Paswan said while speaking an event of the party’s SC/ST cell in Patna. The young leader later cleared the air on his statement and claimed that he was referring to the Congress-led UPA.
“My father was a minister in the UPA government too. And too many things took place back then which were detrimental to the interests of Dalits. Even pictures of Baba Saheb Ambedkar were not put up at public events. So we parted ways,” said Chirag Paswan was quoted as saying by PTI.
‘Will be in NDA till Narendra Modi is my PM’
Showering lavish praise on PM Narendra Modi, the Union minister said that he “will be in the NDA till Narendra Modi is my Prime Minister”. Chirag added that the current BJP-NDA regime has been sensitive to his concerns about Dalits. He cited the example of the Centre’s stand on creamy layer and lateral entry into bureaucracy to substantiate his point.
There has been some buzz over the potential rift between LJP and BJP recently. But Chirag Paswan has been putting all these speculations to rest and calling them rumours. A month back, he had paid he is “inseparable” from PM Modi. “My love for Narendra Modi is unshakeable. I am inseparable from him, for as long as he is Prime Minister”, he had said in an interview to PTI. The LJP (RV) leader has also underlined that he was ready to take part in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections as a partner of the NDA if the BJP wants him to.
