Beed: As campaigning for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections heats up, politicians from different parties are making their pitch to woo voters. Amid the political activities, a candidate of Sharad Pawar’s NCP tried to entice bachelor guys with a promise of bringing them brides.
A video has surfaced of Rajesaheb Deshmukh, the NCP(SCP)’s candidate for the Parli assembly seat in Marathwada’s Beed district. Addressing the gathering, he purportedly asserted to get all the bachelors of the region married if he is elected to the assembly.
“In marriage decisions, people want to know if the young men from Parli have jobs or are engaged in business. But how will they find employment if the government isn’t creating jobs? If the guardian minister, Dhananjay Munde, remains far from efforts to establish industries or similar initiatives, what options do these bachelors have? I assure all the young men that I will help them find partners and secure some livelihood as well,” he spoke in Marathi during the gathering on Tuesday.

Deshmukh is contesting against incumbent NCP MLA and Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde in the upcoming polls.
NCP (SCP) chief spokesperson Ankush Kakde defended Deshmukh’s remarks, stating, “Youth not getting married — especially in Marathwada, where job creation has been almost non-existent over the past decade despite BJP and its allies’ development claims — has become a social issue. There’s nothing wrong if one of our leaders pledges to support such youth by potentially arranging marriages and organising mass wedding events.”
Parli, one of the most polarised constituencies in Marathwada due to the reservation issue, is witnessing a Maratha versus OBC contest in the election. NCP (SCP), led by Sharad Pawar, has fielded Deshmukh, a Maratha candidate, against Munde, who represents the OBC community in the region.
