New Delhi: While most cities in the North and Western parts of India have recorded a massive increase at the AQI level over the last couple of days, some cities of Rajasthan, including Bhilwara, Sirohi, Baran, recorded below 100 AQI levels on Monday.
Bhilwara and Sirohi recorded 82 AQI levels respectively on Monday, and Baran recorded 90 on Monday. Notably, Baran recorded 160-180 AQI levels on November 16 and 17. Other cities in Rajasthan including Jodhpur recorded an AQI level of 185 on the same day. Notably, several parts of North and North India continue to be engulfed under heavy smog for the last few days with AQI crossing 400 in most cities. The national capital of New Delhi recorded 612 in Delhi at around 4 pm.
Reasons behind the dip in AQI level
Importantly, in recent times, the authorities in Bhilwara have made efforts to address industrial pollution in the district, which include the formation of a panel to tackle the issue. However, there have been reports of effluents from textile units flowing unabated. Similarly in Sirohi, the air quality is worsened frequently due to changes in temperature, which traps pollutants in the ground, posing health risks for the people.
Highest AQI level on Nov 17 this season
From November 14 to November 17, the AQI level had increased to above 130 AQI level but decreased to below 90 on Monday. Baran which too recorded moderate AQI levels on the day had reached above 180 on November 16 and November 17, but the city too recorded below 100 on the same day. While the most hazardous day was recorded on November 17, strong cold winds swept through the plains which caused a dip in air quality. Delhi recorded an AQI level of over 440 at 4 pm on Sunday after which GRAAP IV was put in place in the city.
