New Delhi: The ongoing tussle over Chief Minister candidate in Haryana Congress became public after the party’s general secretary and senior leader Kumari Selja acknowledged the reports that she wants to become the CM.
While answering to a question about the party’s CM candidate, she said it was for the party high command to take a call on the issue, but questioned if there was anything wrong in a Dalit becoming the state CM.
“A decision on the CM candidate will be taken by the party high command, but what’s wrong if I want to become CM, why can’t a Dalit become CM,” said Selja.

Selja said there were difference among leaders over ticket distribution, but every party has such issues. She claimed that all such issues will be resolved and the Congress party will contest upcoming Haryana elections with full strength.
“Every party has differences over ticket distribution, but we all will fight unitedly for the victory of the party,” added Selja.
Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Selja have been involved in virtual tussle claiming to be the party’s CM candidate.

In its first list of candidates on Sunday, the Congress party, including nine fresh names for important seats like Tosham and Gurugram. This announcement covers candidates for 41 seats so far, with ongoing discussions with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) about a potential alliance.
The first list also included name of former CM Bhupinder Hooda, who has been fielded from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. Hooda is a prominent Jat figure in Haryana, which is significant as Jats make up 25% of the population in the state. Moreover, the BJP’s connection with the Jat community has been weak.
The party is set to contest the upcoming Assembly elections on its own after their seat sharing talks failed with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Both the opposition party had contested the Lok Sabha polls together in Delhi. In the LS polls, the Congress party had given one seat to AAP in the state, which it had contested unsuccessfully.
