New Delhi: Just hours before taking oath as Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta on Thursday said that as per their pre-poll announcement, women in Delhi will start getting Rs 2,500 per month with the first installment getting credited in their bank accounts by March 8.
In a move to outdo Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, BJP, in ints manifesto, had announced this financial support for women in Delhi. AAP had promised to give Rs 2,100 monthly to women in Delhi.
Gupta, who was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Wednesday, emphasised that delivering on their promises is her top priority.
“Fulfilling the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the responsibility of all 48 BJP MLAs in the capital. We will definitely fulfill all our promises, including financial support for women. Women will 100 per cent get monetary support into their accounts by March 8,” PTI quoted Gupta. March 8 is observed as the International Women’s Day.
The BJP returned to power after almost 27 years after winning 48 seats in Delhi Assembly elections, while ruling AAP was limited to only 22 seats in the national capital.
Gupta, a lawyer by profession and a former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president and municipal councilor, emerged as the top choice of the party high command on Thursday for the Delhi CM job.
Gupta will be sworned in as Delhi CM at Ramlila Maidan in Central Delhi today in th presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top party office bearers. Along with the Union cabinet minister, CM of most of the NDA-ruled states will also be present at the grand ceremony.
Six minister- Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh- will also take oath in the swearing-in ceremony today.
