New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States from September 21-23, and during this time, a former NRI host, Hirubhai Patel, fondly recalled a memorable incident from 1997.
At that time, PM Modi was attending an event organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad when he faced an unexpected challenge — he lost his bag.
PM Modi remained calm in ‘stressful situation’
After the event, as PM Modi arrived at his host’s residence, he realized that his bag, which contained important items like his passport, money, and clothes, was missing. This unfortunate situation could have caused panic, but PM Modi remained remarkably calm.
Patel, who was with him during this incident, noted how PM Modi reassured everyone around him not to worry. His composed demeanor in such a stressful situation impressed those around him.
PM Modi borrowed some money for his expenses
PM Modi ended up staying at his host’s home for five days while waiting for arrangements to be made for a new passport. During this time, he showed humility and honesty by asking for a loan of some money to cover his expenses, since his own funds were also stolen.
PM Modi promised his host’s relatives that he would repay the loan as soon as he returned to India, and he kept that promise, repaying them shortly after his trip.
PM Modi’s 3-day US visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his US visit on Saturday. PM Modi has gone to US on a three-day visit. During his visit, the PM will attend the Quad Summit, which will be held on September 21 in Wilmington, Delaware. US President Joe Biden will host this summit.
