New Delhi: A contact lens is an optical medical device which is placed on the outer surface of the eye. It is used for visual rehabilitation purposes like correction of vision or for better cosmetic appearance. Sometimes during lens insertion or removal, one may face issues of lens dislocation or lens getting stuck in the eye. Anatomically, contact lens can’t travel behind your eye or get lost inside it.
In case of lens getting stuck/dislocated in the eye, Follow the steps below to safely remove it:
Stay Calm: Avoid panicking or rubbing your eye, which can worsen the situation.
Locate the Lens: The lens may have shifted to the white part of your eye or under your eyelid. Carefully pull your upper and lower eyelids apart and look in different directions to find the lens. Sometime the soft lens can fold in the eye and get stuck under the eyelid
Lubricate your eye: If the lens is stuck, apply tear substitute eye drops to keep your eye moist. Blink several times to help dislodge the lens.
Gently Remove the Lens: If you can see the lens, use clean fingers to gently slide it back to the center of your eye. Once centered, you can remove it as you normally would.
Blink or Massage the Eyelid: If the lens is stuck on the white part of your eye, try blinking rapidly or gently massaging your eyelid to help move the lens toward the center of your eye.
Seek Professional Help: If you can’t remove the lens or experience discomfort, redness, or blurred vision, contact an optometrist or ophthalmologist immediately. They can safely remove the lens and assess any potential eye irritation or damage.
