New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann on Saturday poke on the ongoing Kunal Kamra controversy and said that comedy must be made in a way that every enjoys and not felt hurt. He added that people these days have no patience and get hurt on anything.
Speaking at the TV9 Network’s ‘What India Thinks Today’ Global Summit, the chief minister noted that satire is something in which people can comment on big issues going on in the country, with just a few words.
Lack of patience among people: Bhagwant Mann
“Comedy should be made in such away that everyone enjoys and no one feels hurt. These days there is a lack of patience among people in the country. Emotions are getting hurt on small issues these days. There are clashes on small things. Comedy should be taken as comedy itself and not hurt anybody,” he said.
The CM added, “Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of this country. He is not the country. Making comedy on PM Modi iss not the comedy on country. There can be comedy on anything, just as like cartoonist RK Laxman used to do with his cartoons.”
When asked whether he saw any difference from being a comedian earlier to now being a politician, he added, “When I used to do comedy I did not have the way to change society, but now have the pen to change society. Gradually, with the grace of god, I joined politics and now I am able to serve the people.”
Talking about the use of bulldozers in the state against those found in the sale of drugs in the state he added a war has started against the drug traffickers in the state. “We have started a war against drugs, which comes from across the border. Several drug traffickers made money after selling drugs. As per rules, bulldozes can be used to destroy their properties.” When reminded that courts are there to hear cases against drug traffickers, he added, “Cases are heard in courts for over 20 years. The next generation grows at the time.”
Referring to farmers closing the Shambhu border in Punjab during their protests against the Centre, the Punjab CM noted that his government is with farmers on the issue. “They closed the Sambhu border, which affected the normal life in Punjab. Many businessmen cross the border for their business purposes. The closing of the Sambhu border affected the economy of Punjab too. They closed the border even when they had issues with the Centre. We supported farmers on the issue. Just the other day I spoke to union Minister Pralhad Joshi on their behalf.
‘Kejriwal defacto leader of Opposition’
Discussing further on several other topics, Mann noted that former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo is the defacto leader of the Opposition and that LoP Rahul Gandhi is nowhere close to him. “ The Congress is still launching him. He remains outside the country more often than not. In politics nothing is permanent. Look at Chandrababu Naidu. He returned to power strongly in Andhra Pradesh.”
Defending his government’s decision to provide a huge cavalcade to Kejriwal days after his party lost power in the Delhi Assembly elections, he added, “Punjab is a border state. We need to take hard decisions. We get threats daily. We have to take protocols. Kejriwal has Z+ category.”
