New Delhi: The mother of a three-year-old girl, who has been trapped in a borewell in Rajasthan since December 23, made a heartfelt plea to the authorities to rescue her daughter. Three-year-old Chetna fell into a 150-feet deep borewell while playing on her father’s farm in the Sarund area of Kotputli district. She has been stuck there for nearly a week.
In an emotional appeal, Dholi Devi, the girl’s mother, told PTI, “It has been six days… My daughter is hungry and thirsty. If she were the child of the district collector, would she have been left in the borewell for so long? Please, get my daughter out immediately.” Rescue efforts faced a setback on Friday when a spell of rain caused disturbances in the tunnel being dug for the operation. Early attempts to retrieve the child using an iron ring with a rope were unsuccessful.
Rescue efforts intensified
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are present at the site. They are supported by doctors and an ambulance, as the child has gone without food or water for an extended period.A piling machine was brought in on Wednesday to dig a parallel pit and a two-member team has entered the pit to dig a tunnel to facilitate the rescue.
Kalpana Agarwal, the district collector, told PTI, “Efforts are being made to reach Chetna by creating an L-shaped tunnel through a parallel pit. Two NDRF personnel are working inside the pit using manual drilling. We are monitoring their progress via cameras, and the equipment they request is being sent to them.”
