New Delhi: Days after a violent shooting incident in Ontario, the Canadian police arrested Arsh Dalla, a Khalistani terrorist wanted in India, in Canada. The incident has further fueled existing tensions between India and Canada, raising questions about Canada’s role in combating terrorism and its alleged support for Khalistani extremism.
The shooting incident, which led to Dalla’s arrest, occurred on October 28th, 2024, and involved two people, Arshdeep Gill and Gurjant Singh. According to a police FIR, Gill sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right bicep while driving his Dodge Durango on Guelph Line, north of Highway 401 in Milton.
The FIR details the events leading up to the arrests:
- Guelph Police received a call at 4:17 AM from Guelph Hospital about a man with a gunshot wound.
- Upon arrival, police identified the injured man as Arshdeep Gill and his companion, Gurjant Singh.
- A Dodge Durango, license plate DCHN175, was found parked outside the hospital with apparent bullet holes.
- Two bullet casings were found inside the vehicle on the passenger seat, indicating that a firearm had been discharged from within the vehicle.
- Gill and Singh reported that while driving on Guelph Line, an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them and discharged several shots, resulting in Gill’s injury.
- Both Gill and Singh were arrested for “Discharging a firearm with intent” based on the evidence.
- Both were cautioned, given legal representation, and transported to Oakville police station.
- Their clothing and phones were seized.
- They were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
- The investigation is ongoing, and search warrants are being executed.
- Additional charges are expected to be laid based on the warrant findings.
