New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) withdrew the Indian team from the World Championship, writing to the world governing body, UWW, regarding the interference from the sports ministry with its autonomy. The World Championship in 12 non-Olympic categories is scheduled to be held in Albania from October 28 and the decision comes just 4 days ahead of the commencement.
Recently, the WFI had announced selection trials for the U23 and World Championship but it was challenged as contempt of court by the wrestlers protesting. They raised questions on the legality of the selection by the federation which has been suspended from all the activities. The WFI had then to withdraw the selection trials notice.
