New Delhi: Even as protests over Kolkata’s RG Kar rape-murder continue to rage, another case of sexual assault has been reported from the state.
In this shocking incident, a doctor in his mid-40s allegedly raped a 26-year-old female patient at Hasnabad in North 24 Parganas, according to a Times of India report. The accused has been arrested and investigations are on. It has come to light that the doctor reportedly injected the woman with sedatives and made her unconscious. After this, the doctor made a recording of the sexual assault. He demanded Rs 4 lakh from her and threatened her that he would release the video on social media platforms if she doesn’t pay up. The doctor allegedly continued to rape her multiple times, and blackmailed her with the footage.
After going through the trauma several times, the rape survivor, with her husband who works in Bihar, registered an FIR with Hasnabad PS against the accused doctor, Nur Alam Sardar, on Monday evening.
The police swung into action and nabbed the accused from his clinic-cum-house at Hasnabad’s Barunhat.
Accused remanded in police custody
Basirhat SP Hossain Mehedi Rehman was quoted as saying by TOI that the accused is a registered medical practitioner and he was arrested for allegedly raping his patient after rendering her unconscious. He added that a probe has been launched and the woman’s confidential statement has been recorded. Legal proceedings against him are on.
Sardar has remanded in four-day police custody after he was produced in a Basirhat court on Tuesday afternoon. The woman had alleged in her complaint that a few days ago, she went to the doctor for getting treated when her husband was out of town. He then administered her tranquillisers and raped her, she said in her complaint.
