New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a week of heavy rainfall across various areas of India. The monsoon trough at mean sea level extends from Ganganagar through Delhi, Hamirpur, Daltonganj, Balasore and southeastward to the east-central Bay of Bengal. Cyclonic circulations continue over west Jharkhand (up to 7.6 km), south Haryana (0.9-3.1 km) and central Assam (0.9 km), tilting southwestwards with height.
North India
According to the weather office, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan. The forecast for these regions includes isolated instances of very heavy rainfall, particularly in east Rajasthan on August 8, Himachal Pradesh on August 10 and Uttarakhand on August 10 and 14.
Isolated heavy rainfall is also predicted over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan throughout the week. Meanwhile, Haryana-Chandigarh is likely to experience heavy rainfall on August 8 and 9, Delhi on August 8 and Uttar Pradesh from August 8 to 12.
West & Central India
In West and Central India, light to moderate rainfall is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa, and Gujarat Region, with scattered rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch. Isolated very heavy rainfall is predicted in East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on August 8th. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh on August 8th and West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa on August 8th and 9th.
East and northeast India
Eastern and northeast India are also bracing for a week of rainfall, with widespread light to moderate showers, thunderstorms, and lightning. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Meghalaya on August 8, with very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh on August 8 and 9. Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim are likely to see heavy rainfall on August 8.
South Peninsular India
In South Peninsular India, scattered rainfall is predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka, with isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on August 8, 11 and 12 and Kerala & Mahe from August 10 to 13.
