New Delhi: Light to moderate spells of rainfall are expected in several places across India on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that isolated places may witness rains accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning. Western India is likely to witness rains on Monday, according to the weather agency.
Rains expected in western and southern parts of India
The IMD has predicted that light to moderate rains are expected over Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana, North & Central Kerala, north interior Tamil Nadu, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, on Monday. Apart from this, Gangetic West Bengal, West Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan will also see spells of light to moderate rains.
The north western part of Madhya Pradesh, East Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to have rainy weather today, said the MeT Department.
Talking about the rains witnessed in states in a day, the IMD said, that in Gangetic West Bengal, Kolkata (Dum Dum) received 7 cm of rains, the Alipore observatory recorded 6 cm and Diamond Harbour 2 cm of rains. In Western Uttar Pradesh, Bareilly witnessed 4 cm of rains and Uttarakhand’s capital, Dehradun had 2 cm rainfall.
In South India, thunderstorms accompanied by lighting and gusty winds are likely over isolated places of Kerala and Mahe, Telangana and Lakshadweep. Squally weather is likely to prevail over many parts of Westcentral Arabian Sea and southwest Arabian Sea. Many part of east central and southeast Arabian Sea along and off Karnataka Kerala coast will also witness similar weather conditions, said the IMD.
In Southern India, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal, Kerala and Mahe and the Lakshadweep islands will also have very heavy to heavy rainfall. The rains are expected to be anything equal to or less than 12 cm in these states.
North Indian states may see heavy rains
It will be a wet Rakhi in the northern parts of the country. Heavy rains are expected over isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilghit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh are expected to have heavy rains on Monday. Similar conditions will be witnessed in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Karnataka.
