New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extreme to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting in several parts of the country in the next few days. Some areas of states including Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat may experience the same. Other areas of these states may also have isolated heavy rainfall.
IMD predicts extremely heavy rainfall in some states
Issuing a statement, the IMD said, “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Madhya Maharashtra during August 1-3, East Madhya Pradesh on August 2 and 3; Konkan Goa, West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on August 3. Heavy to hefty rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat Region during 01st-05th; Madhya Pradesh during 01st–04th; Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh during 01st-03rd and Saurashtra & Kutch on 03rd August.”
According to the weather department, some of the northern states including Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh may receive widespread light to moderate rainfall. “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the week,” it added.
The weather department has also predicted isolated very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand between August 1 to August 3 and East Rajasthan between August 1 to August 4. “Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Jammu-Kashmir and Rajasthan during 01st-05th; Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during August to August 7; Uttar Pradesh between August 1 to August 3, August 6 and August 7; Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh on August 1 and August 2.
Very heavy rainfall in the East and North-East parts of India
Moving to East and North-East parts of the country, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram. “Weighty rainfall very likely at isolated places over Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal on August 1; Assam & Meghalaya on August 1 and August 2; Manipur, Mizoram on August 1 and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 5,” the press release further said.
