New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday met Speaker Om Birla amid the ongoing uproar in the Parliament and asked him to expunge derogatory remarks against him by BJP MPs while reiterating that Opposition wants to let the House function.
“I held a meeting with the Speaker. I told him that derogatory comments against me should be expunged. The Speaker said that he would look into it,” he told reporters outside Parliament.
Gandhi further hit out at the Centre, saying the Opposition wants the House to function but will not budge from its demand of discussing the Adani row.
“Our aim is that the House must run and discussion should happen in the House. No matter what they say about me, we want that there should be a debate on 13th December…They don’t want a discussion on Adani. In the end, we will not leave this. They will keep levelling allegations on us but the House must function,” he added.

Earlier, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, wrote to the Speaker, requesting a review of the party’s complaint against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for his “defamatory remarks” about Rahul Gandhi and urged their removal from the records.
Gogoi stated that following the Speaker’s decision, the Congress is eager to participate in the legislative business scheduled for the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
