New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the brave personnel of the Indian Navy on Indian Navy Day 2024 on Wednesday. PM Modi said that India takes pride in its rich and glorious maritime history.
Taking to X, he wrote: “On Navy Day, we salute the valiant personnel of the Indian Navy who protect our seas with unmatched courage and dedication.”
Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 each year to honour ‘Operation Trident’ during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. On this day, the Indian Navy carried out an attack on Pakistan’s key port city, Karachi. It not only showcased India’s growing naval strength but also marked a crucial military win.
In the X post, Modi said, “Their commitment ensures the safety, security and prosperity of our nation. We also take great pride in India’s rich maritime history.” The post has been shared with attached video with a voice over of his message for the Indian Navy.

President Droupadi Murmu, who is on a five-day visit to Odisha, will also attend the Navy Day celebrations at Blue Flag Beach in Puri on Wednesday.
Rs 90,000 crore deals to upgrade Navy
Meanwhile, on December 2, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi announced that the Indian Navy is set to finalise deals for 26 Rafale Marine combat aircraft worth Rs 90,000 crore. He also said that discussions for three Scorpene submarines are ongoing and are expected to be concluded by next month. Addressing the annual Navy Day press conference, the Navy Chief pointed out, “The Indian Navy aims to finalise the deals for Rafale-Marine and three additional Scorpene submarines by next month.”
The Indian Navy is in talks with France regarding the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine fighter aircraft. Negotiations are also ongoing with the French Naval Group to build three additional Scorpene-class submarines at Mazagon Dockyard Limited.
