New Delhi: The United States has extended greetings to India on the occasion of its 76th Republic Day, “recognising its enduring significance as the foundation of the world’s largest democracy”. In an official statement, US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio expressed admiration for India’s democratic foundation and the growing partnership between the two nations.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of India as they celebrate their nation’s Republic Day. As they commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India, we join them in recognising its enduring significance as the foundation of the world’s largest democracy,” Rubio said.
Relationship continues to reach unprecedented heights
He emphasised that the US-India relationship continues to reach unprecedented heights and will serve as a defining partnership of the 21st century. “The enduring friendship between our two peoples is the bedrock of our cooperation and propels us forward as we realise the tremendous potential of our economic relationship,” he added.
Rubio also highlighted the importance of the Quad alliance—a grouping of the US, India, Japan, and Australia—in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.
“The partnership between the United States and India continues to reach new heights and will be a defining relationship of the 21st century. The enduring friendship between our two peoples is the bedrock of our cooperation and propels us forward as we realize the tremendous potential of our economic relationship. We look forward to deepening our cooperation in the year ahead, including by advancing our joint efforts in space research and coordination within the Quad to promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” Rubio further said.
Rubio met Jaishankar on first day in office
Rubio on his first day as secretary of state hosted the foreign ministers of Australia, India, and Japan for a Quad meeting in Washington, D C. Rubio also held a separate bilateral meeting with external affairs minister S Jaishankar, and discussed regional issues and strategies to enhance the US-India partnership further.
The celebration of 76th Republic Day on Kartavya Path will showcase the nation’s rich cultural diversity, military strength, and progress in development. President Droupadi Murmu will lead the celebrations, with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
