Srinagar: Choatic scenes were witnessed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday as Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, Awami Ittihad Party MLA and jailed Engineer Rashid’s brother, held up a poster labelled “restoration of Article 370, evoking an aggressive response from BJP members.
BJP MLAs then got into a scuffle as they snatched and tore up the poster, leading to prompt intervention by marshals. They then protested in the House against Sheikh’s actions, causing adjournment of the proceedings.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and other BJP members were seen objecting to the poster display and terming it unconstitutional. This comes after the assembly passed a resolution on Wednesday seeking the restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ruckus in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly
As soon as the House convened for the day, BJP members erupted in protest over the passage of a resolution on Wednesday, which urged the Centre to develop a constitutional mechanism to restore the special status of the former state.
While BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma was addressing the resolution, Awami Ittehad Party leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed jumped into the well of the House, holding a banner that read, “Articles 370 and 35A be restored.”
This provoked BJP members, who quickly entered the well, seized the banner, and tore it into pieces. Following the passage of the resolution on Wednesday, the House was thrown into chaos as BJP members protested loudly, causing frequent disruptions to the proceedings. As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
