Lakhimpur Kheri: Horrific scenes were witnessed at a local fair in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri where a 10-year-old spent minutes holding on to her life from a 60-feet-high ferris wheel while people watched in shock, with some even chanting “Ram, Ram” in concern for the child.
Thankfully, the girl was rescued after a few tense minutes and some quick thinking by the operator who immediately stopped the ride and moved it anti-clockwise to bring the girl down.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Rakehti village, located in the Nighasan area of Lakhimpur Kheri, about 130 km from Lucknow.
As the swing unexpectedly started moving, a girl lost her balance and fell from her cabin, clinging to an iron rod. Panicked screams erupted as she hung on for about a minute before the operator managed to safely rescue her.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajiv Nigam confirmed that the girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, is safe.
Authorities revealed that the operators lacked permission to run the giant ferris wheel at the fair. An investigation is underway to determine how it was operating without approval. The girl claimed she left hanging for about a minute before being rescued.
