Dehradun: A scooter rider in Dehradun was thrown into the air after hitting an unmarked speed breaker located in front of the clock tower. The rider approached the bump at a moderate speed, and as the scooter struck the speed breaker, it launched into the air, causing the rider to fall off.
Luckily, the rider quickly got up and continued riding, seemingly unharmed. The incident was captured on video and shared widely on social media.
Three-year-old child injured
The speed breaker, which was meant to reduce vehicle speeds, has become a significant safety hazard due to its poor design. The speed breaker is not only excessively high but also lacks proper markings or signage to warn drivers, making it difficult for them to anticipate the bump.
This design flaw has caused several accidents, particularly for two-wheelers and cars. The scooter rider’s incident is part of a larger pattern, with at least seven accidents reported due to this unmarked speed breaker. Among the incidents, two people, including a three-year-old child, were injured.
Similar incident
This incident follows a similar one that occurred in October in Gurugram. In that case, a BMW was seen soaring over a newly installed speed breaker on Golf Course Road. The car became airborne after hitting the speed breaker, and two trucks were also seen launching into the air upon impact. The incidents highlighted the danger posed by poorly designed speed breakers, particularly in high-traffic areas.
After the Gurugram incident, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) responded by installing warning signboards indicating a “Speed Breaker Ahead” and marking the speed breaker with thermoplastic white paint for better visibility, especially during nighttime.
