New Delhi: A potentially devastating incident was averted in north Kashmir’s Palhallan area of Baramulla on Monday when a joint team of security forces successfully detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Baramulla -Srinagar highway.
The operation was carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Army, CRPF and SSB Battalion in the town of Pattan. According to officials, the IED was spotted by the joint forces during routine surveillance, prompting immediate action.
Upon discovery, authorities swiftly halted traffic and restricted public movement in the vicinity to ensure safety. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately deployed to the location, where they safely diffused the device without causing any harm to nearby residents or security personnel.
“The timely recovery and neutralisation of the IED thwarted a potentially catastrophic event,” said an official, emphasising the critical role of the security forces in preventing harm. Following the successful defusal, traffic was cleared, and normal movement was resumed along the highway.
In response to the incident, a case under relevant sections of the law has been filed at the Police Station in Pattan, and an investigation is currently underway to uncover those responsible for planting the device.
