New Delhi: Three terrorists were killed on Saturday following an overnight gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Addressing the media after the operation in Chak Tapper Kreeri, Brigadier Sanjay Kannoth, Commander of the Army’s 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, said that security forces had received intelligence regarding the movement of militants in the area.
Terrorist tried to break through the security cordon
A drone footage from the encounter site captured the final moments of one of the terrorists, who is seen attempting to break through the security cordon while firing at the forces before being neutralised.
Brigadier Kannoth added that the militants engaged in sustained heavy firing throughout the night, which was effectively countered by the troops.
“The operation resumed in the morning, where our forces, in a highly professional manner, engaged the terrorists and neutralised them without causing any collateral damage to civilian life or property,” he said.
Hardcore terrorists eliminated in the operation
In the operation, three “hardcore” terrorists were eliminated, and a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered. Brigadier Kannoth added that the identities of the militants were still to be confirmed.
He emphasised that, given the upcoming sensitive events in the Union Territory, “this operation holds significant importance and represents a major success for the security forces, disrupting the malicious Pakistani agenda in the Kashmir Valley”. Campaigning is currently underway in Jammu and Kashmir for the three-phase Assembly elections, being held after a decade.
