New Delhi: The assembly of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed intense political drama for the second day amid ongoing chaos. Opposition parties continued their demand for a discussion on the controversial Waqf Amendment Act, which led to a temporary adjournment of the house. A heated conversation took place between lawmakers from the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Members of the respective parties also indulged in sharp remarks related to the implications and implementation of the Waqf Act. It is to be known that the bill has been passed in Parliament the previous week.
This verbal argument disturbed the proceedings, which led to the adjourning of the session until 1 PM.
The PDP and the Awami Ittehad Party had raised an adjournment motion to discuss the Waqf Act, which was later rejected by the Speaker. Many Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were seen raising slogans against the Speaker, and PDP MLA Waheed Para, who was later removed from the Assembly premises.

Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti expressed her concerns on X, formerly Twitter, mentioning that the action of the speaker constituted a “direct assault on the rights, beliefs, and dignity of 24 crore Muslims in India.” She mentioned, “The Waqf issue transcends matters of faith. It is a direct assault on the rights, beliefs, and dignity of 24 crore Muslims in India. As the only Muslim-majority region, Jammu and Kashmir must rise to the occasion and defend the rights of its people.”
Apart from this, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone expressed his disagreement, calling for a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
