The Volkswagen Virtus was launched in Indian back in 2022 and since then it has sold over 50,000 units, making it the highest selling sedan in the Indian market in 2024. The Virtus has become a cult classic specially between the enthusiasts of India. In this year alone, Volkswagen sold around 17,000 units of the vehicle.
The Virtus keeps the dream of affordable and fun to drive sedans alive. It is also known as the Polo sedan in some countries so it is indeed the rightful successor to the Polo. The Virtus comes with two engine options. The first one is the 1.0L TSI engine which produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque and is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The other engine is an enthusiast favourite and is a 1.5L TSI EVOII engine which produces 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.
The Virtus is also one of the safest cars for sale in the Indian market. It scored a very respectable 5-star adult occupant safety rating and a 5-star child safety rating. The Virtus is available from a starting price of Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and it goes all the way up to Rs 19.14 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top spec GT trim. It comes loaded with features like a 10-inch infotainment screen, a digital drivers display, 6-airbags, LED headlights, a sunroof, ventilated seats and an 8-speaker sound system with an amplifier and a subwoofer in the top end variants.
The Virtus has also been a popular model between enthusiasts to tune and modify. The platform is relatively new and still in development phase but a lot of people have made their Virtus’s quite a bit faster than the original.
