Chennai: In a significant development, reports suggest that Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi may soon be replaced by former Union Minister and Chief of Army Staff, VK Singh. The move comes amid growing controversy surrounding Ravi’s tenure, particularly his recent remarks during Hindi month celebration at DD Tamil office and the omission of key lines from the Tamil Thai greeting.
Ravi’s three-year tenure has been marked by tensions with the state government, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin. The latest row erupted when Ravi attended the closing ceremony of Hindi Month celebrations, where the Tamil Thai greeting was sung without the lines “Dekkanum sharantanda Dravida nal Thirunadum”. This sparked outrage among DMK alliance leaders and opposition parties.
VK Singh Next Tamil Nadu Governor as RN Ravi Faces Heat?
The central government is reportedly planning to change governors who have been in office for a long time, including those in Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, and Tamil Nadu. VK Singh, a former Army Chief and Union Minister, is being considered for the governorship due to his strong connection to Tamil Nadu.
Singh has visited the state multiple times as a Union Minister and he also participated in an ex-servicemen convention in Madurai in 2023, emphasizing the importance of patriotic soldiers joining the BJP.
As a former Ghaziabad Lok Sabha MP and Union Minister in Prime Minister Modi’s first cabinet, Singh brings significant experience to the table. The potential change in leadership could have significant implications for Tamil Nadu’s politics, particularly ahead of future elections. While the central government has not officially confirmed the move, speculation is rife about Ravi’s impending transfer.
Ravi, a former IPS officer, has been at the center of several controversies during his tenure, including his comments on Hindi and his alleged attempts to impose central government policies on the state. The opposition has accused him of overstepping his constitutional role and undermining the state government’s authority.
