Bengaluru: The administrative body Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has issued a notice to a pub ‘One8 Commune’ owned by Virat Kohli on charge of fire safety violations. This is the second notice to the pub after the first one which was issued on November 29 didn’t get any reply.
The pub-cum-restaurant is located near the Chinnaswamy International Cricket Stadium, on the sixth floor of Ratnam’s Complex on upscale MG Road. The pub is reported to be operational without a no objection certificate (noc) from the fire department.
BBMP gives 7-day deadline for response threatening legal action
The notice was issued after the complaint from social activists HM Venkatesh and Kunigal Narasimhamurthy. Since the first notice didn’t receive any reply, the BBMP this time has given a seven-day deadline to the outlet. According to the notice issued by the Health Officer of Shanthinagar Division of BBMP, the pub will have to face a legal action if the clarification is not given this time.
Complainant raises Bengaluru’s ongoing fire safety concerns in high-rise buildings
Social activist, Venkatesh said, “Several bars, restaurants and pubs located in high-rise buildings in different locations of Bengaluru are being operated without adequate fire safety precautions. The city has seen substantial loss of life and injuries from fire accidents in the past. A notable example is the fire accident at the Carbon Towers, which was caused due to a short circuit. People were compelled to jump from the building in a desperate attempt to escape due to the lack of proper arrangements.”
Previous violation at One8 Commune
Apart from this, an FIR was also registered against the pub One8 Commune in July this year, for operating beyond 1:00 am at night. According to the report, the establishment was still operating and serving customers at 1:20 am, which is beyond the permissible time limit.
