New Delhi: Two Indian stalwarts – Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are facing the heat from all the cricket fans for their non-performance on the field. The duo has been struggling big time as they are unable score runs and stand tall for their team during crunch circumstances. While we understand that it’s just a lean patch both the veterans are going through but how long will it last is a question that remains unanswered.
Meanwhile, India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar on Wednesday said that both out-of-form legends must be given space and time to make a comeback and one should stop criticising them. He also said that they do not ask for tailor-made pitches in Test cricket. After suffering their first-ever Test series defeat at home in 12 years, India will play for pride when they take on the Kiwis in the third and final Test at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai from November 1.
Mumbai pitch to favour spinners?
Playing on a track that helped the spinners, India lost the Pune Test by 113 runs and it is being speculated that the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium could again favour the spinners. Nayar refused suggestions that turning tracks are being made at the behest of the team.
“I wish we could curate pitches, but we don’t. The curators do. Whatever we’re provided with, we go on and play (whether) that’d be a pitch that seamed or a pitch that turned. We don’t try and get conditions according to what we want,” Nayar said on eve of of the final Test.
Speaking about Kohli and Rohit, Nayar said that they are modern-day greats and they need a bit of time and backing to comeback and shine again for Team India. He added that all that he has witnessed is love for them from all the quarters and when a top player like Kohli or Rohit go through tough times, giving them space and ensuring trust is the best thing to do.
