Viral video shows woman SHO thrashing teen, grandmother inside GRP police station in MP’s Katni

Katni: In a shocking case reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Katni, a teenaged boy and his grandmother were allegedly beaten up by GRP personnel at the railway station. The incident was caught on CCTV  and the video has now gone viral. It has caused considerable outrage amongst netizens.

GRP was investigating theft case against teens father

According to a report in NDTV, the GRP personnel were interrogating the woman and her grandson, with regards to a theft case, registered against the boy’s father. A woman SHO first beat up the elderly lady and a group of police personnel then beat up  her grandson.

The woman SHO was initially beating up the woman with a huge stick, while her grandson stood nearby stunned at what his grandmother was going through. Next some other police personnel enter the room and charge at the teenager.

The video of the incident shows the teenager lying on the ground, while a group of men in uniform are beating him up using belts. Then another man who is not in uniform appears and pulls up the teenager by his hair and shakes his head from side to side.

Later on the victim (the teenaged boy) was quoted as telling reporters that the police asked him where his father was. They accused the boy’s father of stealing. According to the boy, when he told them that he had no idea where his father was, he was brutally thrashed by the police personnel. His grandmother was also not spared.

The minor said, “They said my father had started stealing a lot.” But according to the child, his father was a simple daily wage labourer.

Investigation launched, police vow to punish culprits

Meanwhile the Superintendent of Police of Jabalpur said that they have launched an enquiry in the entire matter. ASP Santosh Deharia is the in-charge of the investigations and he will be verifying the authenticity of the video.

Later the SP Railway Jabalpur wrote a post on ‘X’ regarding the matter. According to him, the video dates back to October 2023. According to him, the boy and the woman who were being beaten up are the relatives of a dreaded criminal, Deepak Vasankar, who has 19 cases registered against him at the Katni Police Station.

According to police, Vasankar is a criminal who has been kept under vigilance since 2017. Last year after he fled following a theft, the police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to his arrest. In April 2024, he was banned from entering the Katni district and his case was reopened, he said. After the video of the alleged beating of the teenager and his grandmother came to light, orders have been issued to start an investigation in the matter, said the SP.
