New Delhi: A day after violence in Sambhal that resulted in four deaths over survey of Shahi Jama Masjid on court’s direction, a clah broke out in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh following construction on a private land near a religious place. A group of people opposed the construction claiming the land belongs to the Waqf board.
Several people were injured in the clash that took place in Jalesar town on Sunday evening. The clash broke out after the group tried to stop the construction owned by one Anil Kumar.
Two accused arrested by police
Police said two of the accused have been arrested and a case has been filed against 166 people including 16 named persons, said a report in PTI. According to police, the protesters demolished the newly constructed wall claiming it was on waqf property.
“The land in question is a private property as per the revenue record. There was clear prior demarcation in teh presence of dargah committee members,” the report quoted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vipin Kumar Moral as saying.
Situation under control
Etah SSP Shyam Narayan Singh said the police acted on time to bring the situation under control. Police said they have arrested the main accused in the case and sent him to judicial custody.
SSP said the breach of law and order will not be tolerated in the area. ” We have arrested the two accused identified as Farman alias Bunty and Rafiq,” said SSP Shyam Narayan.
An FIR has been filed against 16 named people under charges of criminal intimidation, rioting and causing public disturbance, said Jalesar Police Station in-charge Sudhir Raghav.
