New Delhi: In a major boost for road infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, the government is looking to build the Vindhya Expressway in the state. Once comes into being, the expressway is expected to boost tourism in the state and also boost connectivity for commuters. Apart from tourism, the expressway will also boost the state in terms of business and economy.
As per officials, the expressway will connect Prayagraj to Mirzapur in the state. The length of the expressway will be 320 kilometres and will be six-lane. It will pass through various districts including Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra. The cost of the entire project is around Rs 22,400 crore.
Three expressways coming into being under the previous govt
In the meantime, the government is looking to build 15 expressways across Uttar Pradesh which will cover 2,700 kilometres of route. Even though six of these lanes (1,224 kilometres) are already under operation, five more roads totaling 945 kilometres are currently under construction. Apart from these, the government is also looking to build four more lanes with a span of around 55 kilometres and form an e-way grid.
Notably, two of these expressways, the Noida Expressway (25 km) and the Greater Noida-Agra Yamuna Expressway (165 km), were constructed during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mayawati. In the same manner, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway (302 km) came into being when Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister.
Another highway, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (96 km) was built after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to power. The government is also looking to build 91-kilometre expressway to connect the expressway with the Agra-Lucknow Expressway for connectivity for commuters.
Fast-pace construction work on Ganga Expressway
As per News 18, The fast-paced construction work is also going on in the 594-kilometer-long Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj. Even though most of the work is already completed, this expressway is likely to be operational by the end of 2025.
