Villupuram: The highly-anticipated Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) conference led by actor Vijay concluded yesterday in Villupuram, but the event’s grandeur was marred by its devastating aftermath. Thousands of attendees left behind a staggering 3 tons of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, including broken plastic bottles, banners, liquor bottles, leftover food packets, and empty water bottles.
The conference venue, V. Road near Vikravandi, was transformed into a garbage dump, with the surrounding area reeking of discarded food and trash. Sanitation workers were shocked by the sheer scale of the mess, describing it as a “sorrowful sight.”
Vijay post TVK conference witnessed severe traffic congestion, chaotic scenes
The event, dubbed the “Victory Policy Festival,” drew an estimated 5 lakh people and 15,000 vehicles, leading to chaotic scenes. Scuffles broke out among volunteers, and police intervention was necessary to maintain order.
Post-conference, the area witnessed severe traffic congestion, with vehicles taking up to 4 hours to exit the area. Commuters on the national highway were forced to take detours, adding hours to their journeys.
Attendees who came by bus were left stranded, with many forced to walk 6 km to the Vikravandi toll booth or sleep on shop doorsteps overnight. Government buses were diverted, leaving passengers without transportation.
Cleanup efforts are currently underway, with sanitation workers struggling to clear the massive garbage pile. The incident highlights the need for better event planning and waste management to prevent such environmental disasters in the future.
