New Delhi: Amid a massive controversy over alleged use of animal fat in Tirupati temple laddus, a video has gone viral on social media purportedly showing mice crawling over the packets of prasad of Mumbai’s famous Siddhivinayak Temple.
The temple administration said that they are looking into the matter and a probe will be launched. The temple authorities, however, said that the purported video may not be from their premises, alleging it was an attempt to tarnish the image of the famous temple.

What Siddhivinayak Temple said on viral video
Sada Sarvankar, Shiv Sena leader and Chairperson of Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGT), said that prasad for the temple is prepared in a clean and hygienic place and that the video which is doing the rounds on social media is not from the Siddhivinayak Temple. “Ghee, cashew and whatever else goes into preparation are sent for testing at the lab of BMC. Things are used only once they get approved from there. Even water is tested at the lab,” Sarvankar told reporters.

Tirupati laddu row
This comes amid huge controversy over the alleged use of animal fat in ghee used to make laddus at Tirupati temple. A report by a Gujarat-based lab indicated that ‘prasadam’ offered to the deity at the famous Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati, and to devotees contained traces of beef tallow, fish oil, and pig fat, or lard. The matter sparked a political slugfest between the Andhra Pradesh government and the Opposition YSR Congress Party. Chief Minister N Chandrababu accused the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government of using substandard ingredients and animal fat for making laddus. Reddy rubbished the allegations and accused Naidu of trying to “divert attention” and doing “politics in the name of God”.
