Pune: Pune is witnessing continuous rains since Sunday afternoon. The rainfall has not stopped even once, said the weather department. This has led to several areas being flooded due to rainwater. Many residents were seen crossing roads in ankle-deep water.
Pune station flooded
By Sunday evening several areas in Pune City, the Pune Railway Station and the several parts of Pimpri Chinchwad were flooded. While several roads and streets are flooded, many residential colonies have also been inundated.
Such was the force of the water flow that a few motorcycles standing on the roadside were washed away. However, locals managed to pull it out of the rainwater, just in time. The Railway stations of the city were worse than the roads. Water had accumulated at the entrance and exit points of the railway station. Passengers trying to enter or exit had to wade in knee-deep water to make their way to the platforms. Most passengers complained of difficulties.
Pimpri Chinchwad area under water
Heavy rains were witnessed since Sunday evening in Pimpri Chinchwad area as well. The low lying areas were thus flooded. The municipal corporation had to use a JCB machine to break down a wall and help drain out the water from one of the areas of the district.
Among the areas which have been flooded due to rainwater are, Sundar Colony of Thergaon and its surrounding areas. The fire brigade had to be called in after this low-lying area was inundated. Several houses in the area saw people wading through knee-deep water. Efforts are on to drain out water from the houses. However the concerned authorities have achieved very little success so far.
