Dehradun: The certificates which the modern Perfumery and Fragrance Laboratory, set up on the premises of Aromatic Plant Centre in Dehradun, issue after testing the aromatic plants and oils, are likely to be recognized at global level.
The Aromatic Plant Centre will soon approach the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in this regard. The NABL may provide accreditation to the Uttarakhand-based laboratory in the new year.
State government promotes aromatic crops
Keeping in mind the challenges of traditional farming, the Uttarakhand government is promoting the aromatic crops across the state. The Aromatic Plant Centre, which is an undertaking of the state government, is taking several steps to promote aromatic crops.
The Perfumery and Fragrance Laboratory was set up on the premises of the Aromatic Plant Centre in Dehradun’s Selaqui locality with the purpose of research and development of the oil obtained from aromatic and spice plants produced in the hill state. Several schemes, including the laboratory, were dedicated to the public by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4, 2021.
Although the laboratory is functional, the certificates issued by it are not recognized
Even as the laboratory is now functional, the certificates it issued after testing the aromatic plants and oils are not recognized. The testing that is being done is of a high quality in this laboratory. This has prompted the Aromatic Plant Centre to approach the NABL.
The NABL provides accreditation in all major fields of science and engineering
The NABL is a constituent board of Quality Council of India which is an autonomous body set up under the department of promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIT), ministry of commerce and industry, Government of India. The NABL provides accreditation in all major fields of science and engineering.
Before approaching the NABL, the Aromatic Plant Centre has done its groundworks
The Aromatic Plant Centre has done its groundworks well before approaching the NABL. It has collected the records, including the testing of the aromatic plants and oils it conducted in the last three years. The Centre is set to submit its application to the NABL for the accreditation of its testing.
