Dehradun: One of the five applications received for registration of live-in relationships under the Uniform Civil Code has been given legal recognition. The first couple has been registered for a live-in relationship.
This couple is said to be from Dehradun district. Apart from the two applications received from Doon, three applications were also received from another district.
Two couples in Dehradun were the first to come forward to get registered
The first registration has been done from Dehradun. The district administration has not confirmed it yet, but according to sources, the first registration has been done in the Doon region. It is worth mentioning that after the Uniform Civil Code gave legal recognition to live-in relationships in Uttarakhand, two couples in Doon were the first to come forward to get registered. Both couples applied on the UCC portal.
Five couples applied for registration under UCC till yesterday’s evening
From the day of UCC implementation in Uttarakhand on 27 January, five couples in live-in relationships have applied for registration under the Uniform Civil Code. Shailesh Bagauli, home secretary, confirmed, “Five live-in couples have come forward to get their relationship registered under UCC. Once the verification process is complete, these couples will be issued registration certificates. The police are investigating the applications.”
First couple has been legally allowed to enter in a live-in relationship
After the documents and claims were found to be correct, the first couple has been legally allowed to live in a live-in relationship. Under the UCC Act, couples who register their live-in relationship will have to fill a 16-page form. They will have to pay the registration fee and also state whether they are eligible to marry in the future or not. The couple will also have to provide details of their previous live-in relationships.
UCC implementation and registration process
Since the implementation of the UCC, a total of 463 people have made registration for various categories on the portal in Dehradun. These categories include marriage registration (459), divorce, registration of nullity of marriage, declaration of legal heirs, and will registration (3).
