Uttarakhand women Congress protests rising crimes against women during Gairsain assembly session

Gairsain: In Uttarakhand, Congress women members staged a massive protest on Friday against the ruling party during the ongoing Monsoon assembly session in Gairsain. They expressed their anger over the increasing crime graph against women in the state.

Women marched towards Bhararisain assembly

During the protests, these demonstrating women marched towards the Bhararisain assembly building. Bhararisain (Gairsain) in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand is declared as the summer capital of the state where the monsoon assembly session is being carried out. During this protest, security forces stopped the women at Diwalikhal barrier but these women scaled the police barriers and raised slogans against the government. When the matter escalated, some women sat on a dharna.

Ankita Bhandari murder case was also raised

Today, on the third day of Uttarakhand Assembly session, Congress women activists protested in Gairsain under the leadership of Mahila Congress President Jyoti Rautela. Women raised slogans against the government for justice in the Ankita murder case and for the increasing crimes against women in the state.

Outrage in Uttarakhand on rising crime against women

Following the incident of a 33-year-old nurse of a private hospital in Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur who was allegedly raped, killed and her body dumped in a vacant plot in an Uttar Pradesh village near the Uttarakhand border, there is a massive outrage in the state. She had been missing since July 30 while returning home from work. Later, her body was recovered on August 8 with her face mutilated beyond recognition. After a few days, a 16-year-old girl was gangraped inside a bus at ISBT Dehradun by five men.

Highly sensitive and hurtful to the sentiments

After the nurse’s murder, SSP, Udham Singh Nagar Manjunath TC said that controlling crime against women is not the sole duty of police. Uttarakhand Congress’s chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni has strongly reacted to this statement and said that such a statement by the SSP of Udham Singh Nagar, where a female nurse was gang-raped and brutally murdered in Rudrapur, is highly sensitive and hurtful to the sentiments.

Many crime incidents took place in recent days

According to Garima, “The gangrape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata shocked the entire nation. Shortly after, the tragic news of a female nurse being gangraped and murdered in Rudrapur emerged. As Uttarakhand was still reeling from these events, another horrifying incident surfaced: a 16-year-old girl was raped by five men at Dehradun ISBT. Additionally, there have been reports of an attempted sexual assault on a teenager at Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani and the molestation of a student by a watchman in Pithoragarh. These incidents have dominated headlines, highlighting the urgent need for action against such crimes.”
