Dehradun: Heavy rains are significantly disrupting the lives of residents in the higher hills. Amidst ongoing rain and thundershower activities across the state, the Indian Meteorological Department, Dehradun, has issued a yellow alert for all districts on Wednesday.
Light to moderate rains are likely in some districts
Light to moderate rain is possible in some parts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Almora. Whereas, districts like Tehri, Pauri and Dehradun in Garhwal region and Kumaon’s Nainital and Bageshwar and Champawat districts can also experience moderate rains in most of the areas.
Heavy rains are severely affecting the normal life
Amidst intense spells of rain in the hilly regions, people are facing significant disruptions due to increased incidents of landslides and rockfalls, which have damaged houses, buildings, roads, and highways. Overflowing rivers and widespread soil erosion have also caused fear among residents living along riverbanks, as many homes have been submerged due to flooding.
People are advised to take precaution
According to the IMD prediction, rockfall and mudslides due to heavy rains may occur at many places. Moreover, very intense rainfall can produce flooding and sudden increase in water flow of rivulets may result in bank erosion/overflow/flash floods as well. Therefore, people residing in vulnerable areas prone to landslides are to remain cautious. Pilgrims/ tourists travelling to Char Dham or other locations in state to remain alert and keep a watch on steep slopes while travelling.
