Dehradun: For Monday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Dehradun has kept all the districts in the state on a yellow alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning. In the weather forecast, heavy rains are predicted in most parts of hilly districts.
In the last two days of August month, the spells of rain slowed down in plain areas of Uttarakhand but it became active again from the first day of September with the announcement of a yellow alert for the districts. Uttarakhand Weather The sequence of heavy rains in Uttarakhand has slowed down a bit. Although the sky remained cloudy from hilly to plain regions, only light drizzle was recorded in most areas. But, as per the prediction of IMD, the first week of September month may lash the state with heavy rains. According to the Director of Meteorological Center, Bikram Singh, the activity of monsoon may increase a bit from Monday.
Light to moderate rains are likely in some districts
Uttarakhand is once again under a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms on Monday, 2 September. Light to moderate rain is expected in most parts of Chamoli, Nainital, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Whereas, light to moderate rains are possible at several places in remaining districts. As the heavy downpour lashing all the state, people in the state are experiencing significant disruptions due to increased landslides and rockfalls, which have damaged houses, buildings, roads, and highways. Additionally, overflowing rivers and widespread soil erosion have also caused fear among those living along riverbanks, with many homes submerged due to flooding.
People are advised to take precaution
Due to the ongoing heavy rains across Uttarakhand, there is a heightened risk of rockfalls and mudslides in many areas. The intense rainfall can also lead to flooding and sudden surges in the water levels of rivulets, potentially causing bank erosion, overflow, and flash floods. For safety, residents in landslide-prone areas should remain vigilant. Additionally, pilgrims and tourists traveling to Char Dham or other destinations in the state should stay alert and be cautious of steep slopes while on the move.

On Sunday, debris caused the blockage of 116 roads across the state. Despite frequent landslides severely impacting the All-weather Road, the number of pilgrims has risen over the past two days. Badrinath saw 1,864 pilgrims, Kedarnath had 1,565, Gangotri welcomed 899, and 1,586 pilgrims visited the Yamunotri shrine.
