Dehradun: Although the monsoon season is nearing its end, Uttarakhand’s plains and hilly regions continue to experience rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Dehradun has forecast heavy rain spells for Dehradun and Nainital districts on Thursday and issued a yellow alert for all districts once again.
Many highways have also been blocked due to heavy rain induced landslides and rockfall. Additionally, the overnight rain has caused blockages on the Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Badrinath highways, impacting the Char Dham Yatra. Continuous rain in the mountains has triggered landslides in several areas. Huge debris and boulders have blocked the Gangotri-Yamunotri and Badrinath highways, leaving vehicles stranded.
Administration teams are working tirelessly to clear the road
The Gangotri National Highway is obstructed by debris and stones near Garam Pani, Netala, and Heena beyond Gangori. Administration teams are working tirelessly to clear the road. The Yamunotri National Highway is closed near Jarjar Gad due to debris and stones. The Badrinath Highway is blocked at Kameda near Karnaprayag Gauchar, with debris falling from the hill due to the rain.
Precaution advised amid heavy rains in Uttarakhand
Due to ongoing heavy rains across Uttarakhand, there is an increased risk of rockfalls and mudslides in many areas. The intense rainfall can also lead to flooding and sudden surges in the water levels of rivulets, potentially causing bank erosion, overflow, and flash floods. Residents in landslide-prone areas should remain vigilant. Pilgrims and tourists traveling to Char Dham or other destinations in the state should stay alert and be cautious of steep slopes while on the move.
