Malari-Jyotirmath highway opened on third day
Amidst heavy rains, the traffic came to the halt when debris blocked the Malari-Jyotirmath highway on Friday morning. The mudslide and rockfall remained continuous for two days and it hampered the repair work as it has activated the landslide zone. After an arduous effort, movement on the highway could resume on the third day. With the highway now accessible, villagers from the border area, as well as ITBP and army vehicles stationed at the border, have resumed their movement.
Landslide cutoff more than a dozen villages in the border area
The Jyotirmath-Malari highway, which connects Uttarakhand to the India-China border (Tibet), reopened today on its third day. On Friday morning, debris near Lata had blocked traffic on the Malari highway, cutting off more than a dozen villages in the border area. This blockage also halted the movement of Army and ITBP vehicles deployed in the region.
